Cabinetmaking
The focus of this course is on a step by step project based approach; it builds
the knowledge of the students by introducing the basics of woodworking, safety,
tools and materials. The course then teaches the various techniques needed to complete
wood projects.
Students will be taught how to measure, how to tell the different types of woods
apart, the various tools and their uses, estimating, designing and interior work
such as molding, finishing techniques, mathematical skills needed in the shop. Over
the years the Cabinetmaking Shop has worked on multiple projects for the school
as well as the community.

Introduction to Carpentry
|
The 9th grade curriculum introduces students to wood working fundamentals, safety,
stationary machine operation, basic print reading, and writing. Students will learn
concepts such as reading a ruler in feet, inches, and fractions of an inch to 1/16”
Students will also demonstrate the ability to calculate board foot, square foot

Foundations of Carpentry I-201
|
Students enrolled in carpentry will be introduced to the many different types of
building materials including the different species of hardwood and softwood, harvesting
and manufacturing processes and grading of solid wood boards, dimension lumber and
timber, manufactured wood panel products such as plywood. Oriented strand board,
hardboard, mineral fiberboards, engineered wood products such as laminated veneer
lumber, parallel strand lumber and wood I-beams. Students will also become OSHA
