Health Services
|
This course provides a foundation for the student
interested in a career in health care. This course is based upon introductory
instruction and clinical skills to act as the stepping stone to the nursing
assisting course and other health careers. Basic safety, infection control,
communication and legal issues and health care will be covered. Students will
participate in an externship program at local health care facilities and
engage residents in activities. Students are given the opportunity to perform
basic clinical skills once they have demonstrated proficiency in the
classroom setting and have met the minimum age requirements as set forth by
the Department of Public Health.

|
This course continues to provide the foundation of
knowledge and clinical skills to act as a stepping stone to the nursing
assistant program and other health careers. The course focuses on basic
safety, infection control and communication. The students participate in an
externship program at local health care facilities. This supervised practicum
allows the student to interact with the residents and to utilize basic
clinical skills once demonstrated successfully in the lab setting such as

The students are instructed in the care of patients with
dementia and Alzheimer's disease. They are instructed in medical bed making
as well as introduced to various activities of daily living. Students become
OSHA and CPR certifications. This course builds learn the legal and ethical
issues that pertain to the health care industry, and examine various laws
that must be adhered to in this industry. They become CPR and OSHA
certified. This course builds a foundation of knowledge to begin

The Nursing Assistant Course is a semester and a half
program culminating in opportunities for state certification as a nursing
assistant. Students learn personal care skills and then participate in a
three day per week externship program at local long term care facilities,
where they apply what they have learned. The students practice verbal and
nonverbal communication to allow them to communicate effectively with
compromised individuals. They practice the principles of ethics and legal
issues that pertain to the health care field and are exposed to state
