Performing Arts

Students will develop special talents using music, vocal, and performing techniques. Students will learn how to read and play music, develop vocal and acting skills. Students will participate in numerous live performances during their course of study.

1VX30A Center for Visual & Performing Arts Freshman Exploratory-During the three day exploratory cycle, the student is introduced to the world of theatre and how it is interconnected to music and video production. 1VX3OB Center for Visual & Performing Arts Freshman year second semester consists of a semester of Drama with a rotation in Web and Art Design. The drama segment exposes the student to the fundamentals of theatre. The students will reach proficiency in the origins of theatre and drama, dramatic literature, stage directions, body positions, the rules of improvisation, observation skills, and basic acting. In the later half of the semester, emphasis is placed on theatre personnel, auditioning skills, essential decorum, and interviewing skills. 7 Cooper, Kerri 2
2AP11A Introduction to Music Performance and Production (Pt 1) Performing Arts- Music Students will receive a comprehensive introduction to the study of music as preparation to becoming a successful composer, performer or producer in the 21st century. Equal emphasis is placed on traditional and contemporary techniques and technology. First semester topics covered will include Performance, Music History, Theory, Ear Training, Composing/Arranging, culminating in the recording of a 3-4 song EP selected from the semester’s projects. 3 Theriault, Marc 1
2AP12A Introduction to Video Production Students will be introduced to the basics of videography and non-linear editing. Students will be asked to use tripod & prosumer video cameras to create content that they will edit via final cut pro. Styles of video production and editing to be studied include news editing, TV Show editing, and feature / news magazine editing amongst others. 2AP13B Introduction to Music Performance and Production (Pt 2) Students will continue receiving a comprehensive introduction to the study of music as preparation to become a composer, performer or producer in the 21st century. Topics covered will now also include Improvisation, Physical/Digital Production, Promotion, and Analysis/Review, culminating in the recording of a “best of” album of 6-10 projects best representing the efforts and accomplishments of the year’s work, as well as the creation of an online marketing presence. 3 Theriault, Marc 2
2AP14B Introduction to Video Production Students will continue to receive a comprehensive introduction to the basics of videography and non-linear editing. 3AP11A Comprehensive Drama Studies: 2 year course of study Performing Arts: 2 year course of study-This course is an intense and comprehensive study for the drama major. The students will reach proficiency in acting skills, voice & diction, basic theatre elements, theatre personnel and stage architecture. The students will master the material within their individual paths. Auditioning skills are honed and there is an emphasis on the monologue.

The 1st year path (juniors) Semester 1 leads to the world of designers. Each cycle, a type designer will be closely examined and emulated.

The 2nd year path (seniors) will examine play analysis. The ultimate goal is to develop the capacity to look at any play and analyze its structure, form and nuances before bringing the individual power of interpretation to take the script from “page to stage”.

3AP12A Advanced Music Performance and Production (Pt 1) Students of the advanced program will begin to build on the foundation established during their introductory studies by choosing a focus in either performance, composition or production. Emphasis will be placed on the establishment of ensemble opportunities within the class.

The first semester Junior should concentrate on improving their principal instrument skill set to a level 3 or higher, while Seniors have the eventual goal of their principal instrument skill set reaching a level of 4 or higher, culminating in the producing a 3-4 song EP selected from the semester’s projects.

3AP13A Advanced Video Production Students will continue to apply techniques learned in Sophomore videography and expand upon them via more sophisticated video effects, audio inclusion and lighting. Students will also study the business of videography and the many mediums it is a part of - TV, Movies, Commercials and the Internet. 2A, 2B, 2C, 2E, 2F 4 Czymbor,Peter 1
3AP11B Comprehensive Drama Studies: 2 year course of study Performing Arts: 2 year course of study- The 1st year path (juniors) Semester 2 will reach proficiency in stagecraft and technical theatre. The technical aspect of set building, props, costumes, lighting, sound, arts management will be examined and executed.

The 2nd year path (seniors) will become proficient in the craft of directing. All of the elements of directing are studied in order to evolve into resourceful directors. At the end of the year, the student will direct a ten-minute scene or play as their Senior project or culmination of the yearly classwork.

3AP12B Advanced Music Performance and Production (Pt 2) Students will continue their principal instruments efforts, culminating in the preparation and production of their own 6-10 track “best of” album of the year’s work including solo and ensemble performances, as well as the maintaining of their online marketing presence. Final products should include any DVC projects done as supporting documentation or marketing materials. 3AP13B Advanced Video Production Students will continue all aspects of videography covered previously and create their own content to be distributed via Public Access TV and/or youtube. Final Project will require all aspects of production from video, audio, graphics and distribution.
