2nd Semester Center for Visual and Performing
Arts- Freshman year second semester consists of a rotation in Performing
Arts, Web and Art Design and Graphics. Within Performing Arts, the drama
segment exposes the student to the fundamentals of theatre including: the
origins of theatre and drama, stage directions, body positions, the rules of
improvisation, observation skills, and basic acting. In the latter half of
the semester, emphasis is placed on auditioning skills, essential decorum,
and interviewing skills.

Students are also introduced to Music concepts at a basic
level. Introductions to: Music Theory, Guitar Class, Composition & Song
Writing, Music Appreciation, selecting a primary instrument and Music
Technology are all covered. Exposure to “Career Paths in the Music Industry”
is also introduced.

Performing Arts-Drama-The sophomore year also consists of
a rotation within Performing Arts, Web, Art Design and Graphics. The drama
curriculum concentrates on voice and diction. Students are taught: American
Standard Speech, which can be used for theatrical applications, interviewing
and real-world situations. Students will study: projection, pitch, tone,
rate, force, pronunciation and articulation. They will practice scenarios
where they eliminate regionalisms and add dialects when appropriate.
Interviewing skills and theatrical career paths will be reviewed

Intro to Performing Arts
|
Performing Arts-Music-This course is an introduction to
music and the many disciplines within the art of music. The following
concepts are covered within this course: singing, playing an instrument,
reading and notating music at a basic level, improvisational techniques,
composition, musical analysis, purposes and meanings of music, the role music
may play in the community, technology and interdisciplinary connections to
other fields. These concepts will be achieved through: listening to various
genres of music, demonstrations in individual lessons, group lessons and
class lecture-lessons through hands on exploratory approaches. Students will
also learn various techniques/pedagogy on a selected instrument.

Performing Arts-Drama-This course is an intense study for
the drama major. Voice and Diction and beginning acting are reviewed. The
intermediate level of acting is explored and acting techniques such as method
acting is introduced. Auditioning skills are honed and there is an emphasis
on the monologue.

Drama-Senior Year Performing Arts-The first half of the
year is focused on play analysis, which is required in becoming an
accomplished director. Play analysis class is designed to hone the student’s
skill of understanding how plays work. This is essential for theatre
practitioners. The ultimate goal is to develop the capacity to look at any
play and analyze its structure, form and nuances before bringing the
individual power of interpretation to take the script from “page to stage”.
In addition we will continue honing acting skills by performing scenes from
the plays we read and other materials

Music- Senior Year Performing Arts-Many intermediate music
concepts are reviewed the first semester of the senior year. Intense focus
and study will be on applying and auditioning for college and also selecting
a topic and preparing for the Senior Project. Live work will also be
encouraged within the senior year. Examples of live work may be:
coordinating/performing community service performances, working on
internship/externship, teaching assistant with a local music teacher and
various other apprenticeships.

Drama-Senior Year Performing Arts -The second half of the
year is focused on the art of directing. The director’s main role is to
direct the play as it is defined as the process of decision making behind the
artistic needs of the production. We will cover all of the basics of
directing in order to evolve into resourceful directors. At the end of the
year, the student will be given the opportunity to direct a ten-minute scene
or play.
