Automotive Technology

 

In our National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) certified program, automotive students will develop critical thinking skills that will allow them to address customer concerns. By learning how each system works to achieve the high performance of today’s vehicles, they will learn the skills necessary to service and maintain the vehicles of today and tomorrow. Through the use of computer based curriculum, state of the art service and diagnostic equipment, system simulators, school and customer vehicles, they will learn the entry level skills needed to enter a career in the ever expanding automotive industry.

   1VA11B Automotive Technology Foundations  The Automotive Technology program for 9th grade second semester students is aimed at educating students in a variety of projects that address customer concerns. Students will be trained in the process of addressing customer concerns through the use of effective communication with the customer and technical research. With a concentration on safety, tool usage and shop procedures. With an emphasis on Mass DESE and NATEF 1.A. 2.A-F + K  7 Braga, Vinskus 2    
Automotive Electrical Systems The student will gain a basic understanding of electrical principles, and more specifically, how they are used in Automotive applications. Students have access to on-line curriculum and text books, combined with specialized automotive electrical training programs, specialized training boards, as well as vehicles. With an emphasis on ASE (NATEF) 6 Electrical 6.A- 6.H and MA 2.T-Y benchmarks. Students will be selected to participate in Automotive Externships 7 Kane 1   
   2VA31A Automotive Braking Systems (Lab) Students will study the theories necessary to service and repair various types of vehicle brake systems as well as reviewing and emphasizing the fundamentals of shop and tool safety. Problem Solving and academic proficiency in reading, writing and mathematics will be crucial in developing student automotive service skills. MA Standards 2.M-S will be learned with an expectation of proficiency and in accordance with our NATEF and ASE 5 – Brake System guidelines.  6 Vinskus 1,2     3VA21A/ 3VA21B Automotive Engines and Engine Performance  This course is aimed at educating students in the application of diagnostic principals to address customer concerns in the Automotive Lab. Students will receive this training through the use of computer/web based curriculum, various projects including modular stations, shop vehicles, and customers’ vehicles utilizing “live”, authentic repairs. With an emphasis on (NATEF) ASE 1 Engine repair & ASE 8 Engine performance and MA 2.Z-BB benchmarks. Students will be selected to participate in Automotive Externships or be recommended for Co-op placement 7 Kane 2   
   2VA41A Automotive Brake Theory Students will continue to learn and apply Brake System theory as it relates to the shop projects and environment. This is accomplished by incorporating multi-media learning, problem solving techniques, and several areas of embedded academics including reading, writing, and shop specific math skills. MA Standards 2.L, 2.M-S will be learned with an expectation of proficiency and in accordance with our NATEF and ASE 5 – Brake System guidelines.  1 Vinskus 1,2    
Automotive Drive train Systems  The student will gain a basic understanding of drivelines, and more specifically, how they are used in automotive applications. Students have access to on-line curriculum and text books, shop vehicles, live work and bench projects. Students will maintain service and repair various drive train configurations including front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, all-wheel drive and four wheel drive systems. With an emphasis on ASE 2 (NATEF) Automatic Transaxle II.A.1 through V.F.9 and ASE 3 Manual Transaxle 3.A-3.F benchmarks. Senior Projects will be completed by the end of the semester.  Students will be selected to participate in Automotive Externships or be recommended for Co-op placement  7 Kane 1   
   2VA71A Automotive Steering & Suspension (Lab) Students will study the theories necessary to service and repair various types of vehicle steering and suspension systems. There is a focus on wheel alignment theory as well as reviewing and emphasizing the fundamentals of shop and tool safety. Problem Solving and academic proficiency in reading, writing and mathematics will be crucial in developing student automotive service skills. MA Standards 2.F-K will be learned with an expectation of proficiency and in accordance with our NATEF and ASE 4 – Steering & Suspension System guidelines.  6 Braga 1,2     4VA31A Automotive Systems (Lab)  Students will be trained in the process of addressing customer concerns through the use of computer/web based curriculum, and technical research as well as the use of state of the art equipment, and work on various projects including modular stations, shop vehicles, and customers’ vehicles utilizing “live”, authentic repairs. Students will be selected to participate in Automotive Externships or be recommended for Co-op placement

   2VA81A Steering & Suspension Theory  Students will continue to learn and apply Steering & Suspension theory as it relates to the shop projects and shop environment. This is accomplished by incorporating multi-media learning, problem solving techniques, and several areas of embedded academics including reading, writing, and shop specific math skills. MA Standards 2.F-K will be learned with an expectation of proficiency and in accordance with our NATEF and ASE 4 – Steering & Suspension System guidelines.  1 Braga 1,2
