Athletics at Southeastern
The Athletic experience at Southeastern is as valuable as our academic and shop experiences. Our athletic programs motivate students to experience the benefits of team unity, the value of a competitive spirit, and the thrill of individual accomplishment. We have Varsity, Junior Varsity and Freshmen level teams in many sports and are members of the Mayflower League and the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA).
Department Philosophy
The philosophy of the Athletic Department is no different than the mission statement of the school. Athletics are considered to be an extension of the academic school day and as such, all of our coaches are expected to be teachers who not only teach proper techniques of their sport, but who also work to build character and prepare young men and women to carry the lessons learned on the field into their adult life. We believe that participation in high school athletics provides a wealth of opportunities and experiences that can affect our students in a positive way.
Department Goals
- To teach proper morals and ethics regarding competition.
- To enable as many students as possible to experience the benefits of team membership.
- To acquire and develop athletic skills.
- To improve physical conditioning as a requisite for good health.
- To develop appropriate attitudes toward competition, sportsmanship, and self-discipline.
Coaches decide who will play at the varsity level based upon their assessment of an athlete’s skills, commitment, and attitude. This assessment continues throughout the season and can result in an athlete moving among levels.
