 Southeastern students work on historical renovation of War Memorial Park

Installing red cedar shingles, carefully taking down historic roofs and working over water to repair a small bridge are just some of the skills vocational school students are learning through the West Bridgewater War Memorial Park project.

“We have to satisfy the historical needs of the park and it goes all the way back to the colonial days,” said Roy Blanchard, a teacher at Easton-based Southeastern Regional Vocational-Technical High School.

“The biggest challenge for the kids is slowing down and paying attention to details,” said Blanchard, who has taught for 22 years.

The park renovation work has been going on this fall.

Fourteen senior carpentry majors are tasked with re-roofing the park’s foot-bridge, wishing well and ticket booth, in keeping with the history of the park, which made the National Registry a few years ago.
