Attention Parents of children brimming with energy and curiosity,………This summer Southeastern Regional High School is offering 7th and 8th grade students from surrounding towns a wonderful opportunity to enroll in the exciting GATEWAY SUMMER ACADEMY OF ENGINEERING.
As part of the federally-sponsored, Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Program, Southeastern Regional’s, Gateway Summer Academy of Engineering, will provide attending students a combination of extracurricular and physical activities as well as engineering subjects like space and flight, design and modeling, and robotics, to name a few.
As is well-known in this economy, STEM (science, technology engineering and math), industries offer stable and high-paying jobs in numbers exceeding qualified workers to fill them. The Gateway Summer Academy of Engineering is specifically geared to expose middle-students to STEM subjects by way of varied and interactive projects. It is hoped that with this exposure, students may recognize their own personal interests in these up-and-coming STEM fields.
The Gateway Summer Academy of Engineering will be held for eight days over a two-week period, July 9-12, 2012 and July16-19, 2012, Monday-Thursday from 8:00am-2:00pm. A total of 32 slots will be available and enrollment will be on a ‘first come/first serve’ basis. The fee is $325.00 per student. For more information, contact Southeastern Regional High School at; (508)230-1293.
The fortunate attendees of Southeastern Regional’s Gateway Summer Academy of Engineering will no doubt enjoy the physical activities and engineering-related projects. They will also no doubt gain valuable insight into the many applications of STEM subject matters. But most importantly, they hopefully will identify their own individual interests in STEM subjects, pursue them in high school and beyond, and set their professional courses toward promising and cutting-edge STEM careers.
