Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School is pleased to announce the excellent performance of its students who competed in the DECA district competitions this past Tuesday, on January 31, in Mansfield. Overall, 38 students competed, and 21 students received awards, which enables them to compete in a statewide competition.
Five students received first place honors, including Spencer Joseph, a senior, for Business Service Management, Iyanah Jacobs, a senior, for Food Marketing Services, Luisa Pelissari, a junior, for Human Resources Management, Aronize Byrd, a junior, for Quick Serve Restaurant Management and Samantha Roberts, a sophomore, for Principles of Hospitality.
The students competed against 450 other students in a competition that focused on careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. Other school districts included Brockton, Dighton-Rehoboth, Franklin, King Philip, Oliver Ames, Somerset, Stoughton and Taunton.
“I am very proud of all our DECA members that competed. DECA is their first experience in a highly competitive business environment and our students conducted themselves in a very professional manner,” said Letty Brown, Southeastern DECA advisor and Co-chairman of Massachusetts DECA.
Twenty-one students will now advance to the state DECA competition in Boston on March 8 – 10. At that time, the students will compete against 1500 other students from all across the state. Students are judged through a written exam, role-playing, and professional appearance.
DECA is an international organization that prepares emerging leaders for entrepreneurial careers, and its membership includes high schools and colleges.
