Chris Comeau and Lisa Maiden Receive Community Leadership Awards

Math Teacher Chris Comeau has been nominated for the January 2012 Community Leadership Award for his exemplary work for the school and with the student body, while striving daily to have each student reach his or her full potential. Not only does he put himself out there during the school day, but he also coached students during summer vacation. “Being a leader in the Southeastern community is an honor” noted Chris, and “providing a quality education so our students can become lifelong learners is paramount in today’s global marketplace. I’m proud of the fact that one of my peers recognizes that I am developing the skills, ethics and drive necessary to make a difference.”

December award winner and nominator Sean Reardon described Chris as a person who “approaches each class with energy and enthusiasm which rubs off on each class. Students feel that this individual is approachable and easy to talk to whether it be about the content in their area or about a social dilemma they may be having. Chris has been a part of both student and teacher initiatives and always has a smile on his face! This is why Chris Comeau is an ideal teacher for our students and is an important part of our school culture.”

Culinary Arts Teacher Lisa Maiden has been an exemplary asset to the Southeastern Community since her first day as a teacher 14 years ago, but her history with Southeastern extends back to her high school years here: She is a 1986 SET Commercial Foods graduate. “I am honored to receive this award. I love teaching and coaching at Southeastern. This is a great place filled with great teachers and students. It is a privilege to work here and give back to the school that made a difference in my life”, said Lisa. December winner Cyra Hathaway continues to reflect upon Lisa’s leadership qualities stating that:
“Through Lisa’s many years at Southeastern she has been a role model and mentor for fellow colleagues and students by being a teacher, leader of committees, class advisor and coach. She has kept her loyalty to the school she graduated from and has worked here over the years by continuously volunteering for student events and community service projects. If there is something or someone who needs help, Lisa is the first to volunteer her assistance. Lisa has balanced working late nights with the culinary department for the many dinner parties, coaching, teaching and continuing her education, all while raising her two wonderful children. Lisa is the kind of teacher students never forget; one who has believed in them to achieve all of their dreams and give back to their communities. She teaches her students how to become great chefs and active members of the community while being professionals. Being an employee of the month in a school with an amazing faculty is an honor and I know that Lisa Maiden is truly deserving of this award as she is a true professional and mentor to students and faculty.”

Community Leadership Awards for the 2011-2012 school year began with the nomination of two exceptional faculty or staff members for their leadership qualities by the administrative team. Thereafter, the accolades continue monthly with current award recipients selecting winners for the following month. Previous recipients for this year are Melanie Altrich (Guidance Counselor) and Alex Benedict (Teacher/Coordinator) for October; Sue Bryant (Health Services Teacher) and Tabitha Hobbs (Environmental Teacher) for November and Sean Reardon (Science teacher) and Cyra Hathaway (Cosmetology Teacher) in December.
