The outfits will be more reminiscent of Oscar the Grouch’s closet than Fashion Week in Milan. But it’s all in good fun and to promote Earth Day.
Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School will present a “Trashin-Fashion Show” on Thursday as the centerpiece of the school’s Green Week celebration.
Each day at the school featured a different theme: Tuesday was recycling, today is resisting, Thursday is rethinking and Friday is reusing.
The school is also running a recycled art show, currently on display in the school cafeteria, that will be judged on Friday.
The fashion show will kick off with a rap battle featuring environmental themes.
Students from the Design and Visual Communications and Cosmetology departments will then model outfits from an assortment of recycled material, inspired by animals.
The models will showcase 24 different looks that have been designed by the DVC students.
Cosmetology students will do makeup and hairstyles for all of the models, and the Video Department will film the event.
The models will also perform dances choreographed by Kerri Cooper, a performing arts instructor, that will be recorded by video students.
The students will receive awards for the best overall look, best outfit, model, hair and makeup.
The event will be capped with an environmental presentation by students in the Environmental Science Department on how to make positive change in the community.
The entire performance will be held Thursday at 9:45 a.m. and again at 11:30 a.m.
